Among the newly promoted clubs, Brighton put five past Coventry as the Sky Blues' struggles deepen, Ipswich edged Palace 3-2 on the road despite a second half red card, and Hull held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw built on two costly Chelsea mistakes. Elsewhere, Forest beat Villa 2-1 behind a new signing's impact, Liverpool and Fulham played out a strange goalless draw built on defensive errors, Bournemouth and Brentford shared a wild 2-2, Everton and Spurs cancelled each other out at 0-0, and Leeds thumped Newcastle 4-1 in a manic 17-minute spell either side of half time.
